With our new file server and network infrastructure, we’ve added size, space and speed. Running on an IBM Xseries 345 with 200gb plus of space, running raid level 5, striping data across 4 hard drives, with a Xeon processor for unparalleled performance, using a Windows 2000 server OS with a 1gb and a 100mb uplink transfer, splitting up the flow of traffic and eliminating any possibility for bottlenecks. Yeah baby!!! Also, a new autoload Quantum DLT tape library backup which is capable of holding up to 8 tapes with a maximum capacity of 880gb of data uncompressed. This new system also makes it a lot easier to monitor and maintain. It will actually send a text message to a cell phone if there are any kind of problems that might occur, day or night. Like our ftp server, the security on this baby is tight. We’ve also added an intrusion detection on both the ftp server and the file server that will record all connections along with their ip address’ and if need be, we can trace that address back to the user or ban that ip address from ever connecting again. Although this security is not really needed for the file server, due to the fact that it’s only connected to the internet for software and firmware updates, it’s something we just can’t ignore. There is one thing though that as a client you can continue to do for us, in order to help us, which ultimately helps you that is to constantly scan your systems and data if created from an outside source for virus’ and virus like activity.
