FLEXOGRAPHIC Platemaking

They say that variety is the spice of life, however, in the platemaking industry, variety is essential for life. Here at DC, we are encompassing a wide variety of platemaking processes (both conventional and digital) and materials under one roof.

Flexo printing is a process that produces flexible plate (not rubber) that is durable, cost effective, and able to achieve high quality linework and process at higher speeds on press.

A lot has changed over the last few years in the wonderful world of photopolymer. It has liberated itself from days of low line screens and poor durability. Today you can, if you wish, run line screens as high as 175 or 200, which is necessary for who knows. But, the option is there. As far as durability, plates last longer on press, stand up to more variety of inks, and also store better if treated properly. Plates come in quite a variety of thicknesses, sizes, and durameters (hardness) and come capped or uncapped. Usually, the thinner the plate, the less the rotary gain, therefore the higher quality of the finished product. Thinner plates might not always apply to your style of printing (corrugated probably won't be mounting up .045 capped plates). Here at DC we offer any size plate up to 30"x40", and thicknesses from .045 to .250, in both capped and uncapped. If we don't have it, and you need it, we will find it and supply it to you.

For exposing process plates, we have the latest technology available. We have made room for a new dual drawer OLEC exposure unit with a light integrator. This pinpoint light system works on integration instead of time, which gives us the consistency we need to maintain, but with less effort on our part.

We have also added the Kodak ThermoFlex platesetter (formerly CREO) and the MacDermid LAVA Plate Processing System to our flexographic platemaking department. These systems, in combination with other equipment already in place, completes DC's automation of our high productivity flexographic platemaking operation. They will give DC the capability to provide you with faster turnaround time, and even more consistent quality. This investment was made in order to serve our customers in the best way possible.
